Salt is flying across the dohyō and Ura is bending out of its way, back arched, arms trailing, in the pose of a certain 1999 film's most famous rooftop scene. Hollywood had bullet time; sumo has izori (居反り), one of the rarest of the 82 official kimarite, in which a wrestler drops beneath his opponent's charge, grips behind the knees and throws him over backwards. It turns up so seldom that most fans will go years without seeing it, and Ura, the most acrobatic rikishi of his generation, is one of the very few who can pull it off. A tribute to the one technique that looks like special effects, for sumo fans, Japan lovers, and anyone who knows the difference between dodging and winning. Printed on garment-dyed Comfort Colors cotton that softens with every wash.
